BP releases trade association report

BP recently set an ambition to become a net zero company by 2050 or sooner, and help the world reach net zero too. It recognises it cannot achieve this alone. As part of this, it has also conducted a review of its trade associations and their alignment with BP’s stance on climate policy.

In this review, BP sets out the 6 tenets of its position on climate policy. It also developes a matrix to guide its decision-making, considering alignment and the value of membership to BP.

The review includes 30 key trade associations, and decided to leave 3: American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers; Western Energy Alliance; Western States Petroleum Association. It found: 22 were aligned; 5 “partially aligned”; 3 “not aligned”.

BP also notes whether it is represented on the Board of Directors / executive committee of each of its associations where it found “partial” or “no” alignment.
